Hi! I've had my nose pierced for about 10 months and I have an 18 gauge stud on the right. I have very sensitive skin and I have a nickel allergy I think. I've had the same piercing in that I got when I first pierced it and I have hypertrophic scarring right next to the piercing. I have tried chamomile soaks, salt water soaks, tea tree oil, and nothing is working! I wanted to change the piercing to stainless steel because it's more hypoallergenic but it won't fit. Could it be the wrong side?

It could be the wrong side, or it could be that your piercing started closing up when you took out the original jewelry. You will probably want to let a professional piercer put it in for you, or at the very least, have them look at your nose. They might also suggest that, since you had an allergic reaction with scarring, that you simply take the piercing out and let it heal. So be mindful of that. (However, that doesn’t mean you couldn’t get your other side pierced if you wanted to. Hint, hint…)

As for the jewelry- someone posted an answer here saying that even stainless steel can cause an allergic reaction. Titanium, iridium, and gold nose hoops & studs might be better options for you. That’s something else you should discuss with the piercer when you have them look at your nose.
